 7  derivelinux was also an operatng system that i took part in the foundation. early on in its life, i made art, pioneered ideas, and made friends :)<br>
 8  until recently, i havent ever used derive aside from testing; even when i made ports, manpages, fixes back then, i was on other operating systems like <a href=k1ss.org>kisslinux</a> and FreeBSD, and i grew to dislike derive a little for whatever reason. its development seemed as if it came to a halt, and that derive was a dead, unusable project. but one day, i was having issues with Guix, and searched for a really <i>new</i>-to-me operating system to try out. i decided to try derive for the first time in a LONG while.

12  and derive was lovely. it reminded me of kiss alot, A LOT, and i was a little joyful every time a package finished compiling. but, i needed to make derive home.

14  back on guix, i adopted stuff like guile and emacs into my workflow, and i was missing that on derive. i know that they (shrub) would never accept a pr porting GNU tools, so i decided to do what i do best, and split.

18  shrub would never accept my pr because <a href=https://codeberg.org/derivelinux/ports>derive ports</a> are opinionated. see, they have a <a href=https://derivelinux.org/replacements>whole list of replacements</a>--i dont need to elaborate, do i? i then remembered when i used to argue with shrub in the discord era, pushing for more packages so the user can choose, but he ultimately denied it.

20  now, ill take it into my own hands, and make my own ports overlay where user choice is prioritized.

22  it started with emacs, then guile, then foot, other packages that have no reason to not be in the repos, to porting actual programs that were on the <a href=https://derivelinux.org/replacements>replaced page</a>

24  heresy is now an extension of the upstream ports, providing a wide selection of additional ports, and some fixes to existing ports.

29  but there it was, derive. i ported conty, a self-contained archlinux container that i can use to run dynslop like gtk/qt apps, or potentially game with wine.
